Pre Amplifiers

A preamplifier sits between your source components and your power amplifier, controlling volume and selecting which source you want to listen to. In a separates system, the preamplifier handles the signal and control functions, while a separate power amplifier provides the power needed to drive your speakers.

Pre-amplifiers are commonly used in higher-end stereo systems where greater flexibility and upgrade potential are important. Some are purely analogue, while others include built-in DACs, phono stages, Bluetooth or network streaming. Many also offer balanced XLR connections and multiple inputs for connecting turntables, streamers, CD players and other source components.

Choosing a separate preamplifier and power amplifier can allow greater control over the sound and performance of your system. It also makes it easier to upgrade individual components over time, rather than replacing the entire amplifier at once.
