Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X® sound is here

Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer

Spatial sound elevated with DTS Virtual:X™

The TX-SR393 supercharges your Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X® experience. Object-based audio is mixed in 3D space and lets any sound play through any speaker, tracking the action, localizing effects, and moving around you. Dolby Surround® and DTS® Neural:X complement native 3D audio playback. These technologies find localization cues in legacy stereo or multichannel soundtracks and upmix these elements to create immersive top-to-bottom dimensionality.

When playing any Dolby® format, engaging Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer enables a more immersive listening experience, creating a virtual surround and height effect from traditional speaker layouts without employing additional surround or height speakers.

Note: Enabled with a future firmware update.

DTS Virtual:X is a new surround-sound virtualization technology that creates an immersive 3D soundfield from any speaker layout, such as 2.1, 3.1, and 5.1 configurations without height, surround, or rear surround speakers deployed. It uses sophisticated DSP-based algorithms to place the audience at the center of a multidimensional soundfield with height and surround spatiality, and is equally effective in large or small spaces. DTS Virtual:X works in the 3D domain with DTS:X soundtracks, DTS formats, and non-encoded stereo.

Ready for 4K HDR entertainment

More power, more realism, more magic

AccuEQ Room Acoustic Calibration with AccuReflex™

Enjoy comprehensive support for 4K/60p and HDR (High Dynamic Range) video formats including HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision®, and BT.2020. The 4:4:4 color-space is also supported. All four HDMI® inputs and ARC-ready output pass video from player to your compatible TV, unlocking everything the latest films and games have to offer. You can easily confirm A/V input-output status via a new OSD window.

It’s tempting to see watts as the most important figure on an amp’s spec sheet. However, watts are an indication of loudness, not sound quality. Amperes—electrical current—tell the real story. The more current an amplifier develops, the better it controls the speakers. Better control equals fast transient response, wide dynamic range, and clear, accurate sound. The high-output transformer, large capacitors, and discrete amps inside the TX-SR393 produce the most current in its class. And that’s one big reason why it sounds as good as it does.

AccuEQ creates a harmonious soundfield in your room. It detects speaker presence, size, and distance from a measurement position, and sets sound-pressure levels. It then selects the ideal subwoofer crossover and applies equalization to all speakers. AccuReflex optimizes object-based audio reproduction through Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers. It resolves phase-shift arising from path differences between directional and non-directional sounds. Enjoy improved localization and a 3D field with vertical movement and overhead dimensionality.

Hear dialog clearly at the touch of a button

Share the atmosphere or relax in privacy

Simple steps to sweet sound

Finally, a fast and effective solution to inaudible dialog in TV programs and movies. The TX-SR393 features DSP-controlled Vocal Enhancer that identifies vocal frequencies and allows you to raise or lower them to taste using keys on the remote or via the tone controls on the receiver’s front panel.

A fantastic addition to the TX-SR393 is a Zone B line-out. It connects a component with an analog RCA line input to audio sources available to the receiver, including HDMI and digital audio. Share sound to a hi-fi in a nearby space, or connect a supported charging transmitter dock for wireless headphones and enjoy your entertainment without disturbing anybody.

The TX-SR393 simplifies your room’s entertainment setup. Components plug into labelled ports while your TV connects via one easy-to-conceal HDMI cable. Hook up your speakers as shown by a friendly diagram next to the numbered speaker terminals. Setup takes moments, enjoyment is limitless.

Smooth and easy Bluetooth® streaming

Decompress with Advanced Music Optimizer™

USB power for streaming dongles

Whatever audio is playing on your phone, tablet, or PC app can be streamed to the TX-SR393 with Bluetooth wireless technology. Once the receiver has paired with and remembered your device, it will start playback automatically whenever it detects an incoming Bluetooth audio stream.

When an audio file is squeezed into a small container (such as MP3), high-frequency data is lost. This can affect sound quality. Onkyo’s Advanced Music Optimizer DSP listening mode reconstructs the missing bit data. Playback quality is greatly improved, while you enjoy the same convenient file sizes. This mode also optimizes Bluetooth streaming playback quality.

A USB port on the rear panel powers any media streaming stick plugged into an adjacent HDMI input—great if you don’t have enough power-points.

Features

4K HDR (High Dynamic Range

High Dynamic Range (HDR) is a video technology that dramatically expands the range between peak brightness and deepest black. By heightening the picture’s dynamic range, HDR provides better contrast between light and dark areas of the image for reproduction approaching what the eye perceives in reality. Rather than producing images of blinding brightness, however, HDR shows what’s been missing in conventional video with better detail resolution in shadows and sparkling highlights as the eye would see them. Furthermore, HDR expands the color gamut by a factor of two, which amounts to roughly 75 percent of the visible color spectrum. Colors are therefore infinitely richer and more natural on HDR-compliant TVs, with smoother tonal gradation. There are a number of HDR standards available, often bundled with video shot at 4K resolution. The most common is HDR10, an “open” format compliant with the new BT.2020 color standard (replacing Rec.709). Most 4K HDR-enabled videos on network streaming services and optical disc use it by default, even where other 4K HDR formats are included. HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) is even more important, as it will be the format used for broadcast television. Where you see the 4K HDR logo on an Onkyo product, you can be confident that supported media will be displayed correctly on your new HDR-compliant TV or projector.

Dolby Atmos

Dolby Atmos uses object-oriented mixing to layer independent audio elements through discrete channels, moving three-dimensional sound effects around the theater with astonishing realism. The format adapts to any home cinema layout incorporating height channels for a more enveloping soundfield with extremely accurate directional and overhead effects.

DTS Virtual: X

DTS Virtual:X is a DTS sound virtualization technology that employs Digital Signal Processing (DSP) to create a spatially realistic 3D sound-field from almost any speaker layout, including space-saving 2.1 and 3.1 setups. This allows you to enjoy the wrapped-in-sound feeling in spaces where it’s not practical to connect Surround, Rear Surround, or Height speakers. Because the technology is DSP-based and exploits psychoacoustic algorithms to replicate directional sound rather than sound reflections from the walls and ceiling, DTS Virtual:X works in large rooms with high ceilings. As well as native DTS:X® object-based audio soundtracks, DTS Virtual:X works with encoded DTS formats and non-encoded stereo.

Bluetooth Wireless Streaming Technology

Bluetooth is a wireless transmission standard that uses shortwave radio signals to connect mobile devices to computers and other compatible electronics. Selected Onkyo products and accessories feature onboard Bluetooth technology—or compatibility with Onkyo’s UBT-1 Bluetooth USB Adapter—to enable wireless audio playback from mobile devices.

High Resolution Audio

Onkyo products displaying the Hi-Res logo can play a variety of 24-bit digital audio formats with sampling rates of up to 192 kHz. Compared to audio on Compact Disc (encoded at 16-bit resolution with a sampling rate of 44.1 kHz), 24/96 and 24/192 Hi-Res formats deliver a more accurate representation of the original analog source because they contain more information. Depending on the quality of the original recording and how it was captured, this means professionally mastered Hi-Res music sounds clearer, more detailed, and more realistic—similar to the difference between 480 x 720 video on DVD and 1080 x 1920 video on Blu-ray Disc.

Zone B Line Out

Zone B analog line-level output will share the receiver’s audio sources to any component featuring an analog RCA input using one easily concealed cable. You can listen to a source in either Main or Zone B, or in both rooms at the same time. While line-out function on legacy A/V receivers was usually limited to tuner, phono, and other analog sources, Onkyo products with Zone B Line Out support digital-to-analog conversion, enabling transmission of NETWORK, Bluetooth®, HDMI®, and SPDIF in PCM format to supported components. Possible applications include listening to TV sports broadcasts in another room; enjoying LP records, AM/FM/internet radio or a CD in the kitchen or deck; or bringing streaming services to older hi-fi systems and integrated amps. Another valuable application is the ability to connect a wireless transmitter or proprietary headphone transmitter dock via RCA cable to enable wireless headphone connection to TV and AVR sources. Play games, watch streaming video, or catch late-night TV in bed without waking your partner. Note that the input sources described depend on the Onkyo model. Please check product information for more details.

Dolby Vision

Dolby Vision is a High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology developed by Dolby Laboratories for commercial Dolby® cinemas, and is now introduced the home environment on supported displays, media players, and audio-video components. Regardless of actual screen resolution, Dolby Vision enhances the brightness, color, and contrast of each pixel for a more dramatic and lifelike viewing experience. Dolby Vision is capable of supporting color depths of up to 12 bits, a maximum 10,000 nits of brightness, and a wide BT.2020-compliant color gamut, far outstripping the capabilities of standard Full HD and 4K video encoding. Further, the technology actively optimizes color, contrast, and brightness scene-by-scene for dynamic and immersive display performance. Dolby Vision is offered on a growing number of titles available on Ultra HD Blu-ray™, via entertainment providers such as Netflix, VuDu, Amazon Video, and Google, as well as for selected games.

DTS: X

DTS:X is an object-based audio technology from DTS. New mixing techniques allow content creators to mix in a multi-dimensional space, freeing sound from the traditional channel bed and allowing effects to be placed or panned anywhere in the front, center, surround, or height speakers. Unbound from channels, DTS:X conveys the fluid movement of sound to create a rich, realistic and immersive soundscape with extreme accuracy. When played through a DTS:X-compatible Onkyo receiver with one or two pairs of front/rear height, in-ceiling, or upfiring Dolby Atmos®-compatible speakers added to traditional 5.1-, 7.1-, or 9.1-channel configurations, the format automatically adapts to any speaker setup for optimal results. The format is playable on most Blu-ray Disc players set to bitstream output and connected to a compatible Onkyo A/V receiver with seven or more channels. DTS:X also sounds great played back through non-DTS:X compatible Onkyo A/V receivers.

HDCP 2.2

HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) was developed to prevent digital audio and video from being illegally copied from consumer electronic devices (including BD players, televisions, and A/V receivers) via HD-capable input or output terminals such as HDMI®. HDCP 2.2 officially replaces previous specifications of HDCP for Ultra HD content to be released in the future. This includes 4K video streamed from internet services, disc-based Ultra HD content from major studios, as well as satellite and terrestrial UHD broadcasts. In order to receive and play back this content at its native resolution, the CE device must be HDCP 2.2 compliant. Selected Onkyo Network A/V receivers from 2014 support HDCP 2.2 for smooth playback of premium Ultra HD content via HDMI.

AccuEQ Room Calibration

AccuEQ is an Onkyo-original room acoustic calibration technology that measures and corrects speaker distances, output levels, crossover frequencies, and frequency response to ensure balanced surround-sound. It works to eliminate standing waves (sounds of the same frequency that collide and obscure the audio image) and also reduces slap-echo from floor and walls. Calibration is performed without altering the loudspeaker’s natural acoustic personality. AccuEQ incorporates AccuReflex technology, which aligns the timing of sound bounced off the ceiling by upfiring speakers (used to reproduce height effects in object-based audio) so it arrives at the listening position in-phase with sound from the other speakers. This ensures clear and realistic audio performance. Further, AccuEQ enables playback of 7.1-channel formats at 96 kHz without downsampling.

32-Bit / 384kHz Audio DAC

A powerful 384 kHz/32-bit digital-to-analog conversion engine from Asahi Kasei Microdevices transforms Hi-Res PCM digital signals up to 192 kHz/24-bit resolution and 2.8 MHz/5.6 MHz DSD into a smooth and virtually noiseless analog signal. The DAC device reduces audio degradation and jitter by employing advanced digital filtering technology.
