Network Streamers
Network streamers allow you to play music from services such as Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz, internet radio and your own music library directly through your hi-fi system. They connect to your home network and are controlled using an app, giving you access to your music without needing a computer or phone permanently plugged into your amplifier.
Some network streamers include a built-in DAC and analogue outputs, allowing them to connect directly to an amplifier. Others are designed purely as digital transports for use with an external DAC. Many also support features such as Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Bluetooth and multi-room audio, because apparently simply choosing what album to listen to was not complicated enough.
When choosing a network streamer, it is worth considering which music services you use, whether you need analogue or digital outputs, and how it will fit into the rest of your system. Some models are compact and straightforward, while others are designed as the centrepiece of a more advanced hi-fi setup.
