Floor Standing Speakers

Floor standing speakers tend to have a better bass response than bookshelf speakers, due to either additional drivers mounted in the cabinet, or a larger space for the driver to work in. Floor standing speakers will take up aproximately the same amount of space as bookshelf speakers on speaker stands. Floor standing speakers can come in a variety of sizes, from compact units (still larger than bookshelf speakers), to huge. Generally the larger the speaker is, the better the bass performance is likely to be.

A more powerful amplifier is recommended with larger speakers for better control of the sound at higher volumes.

Larger Floor standing speakers are usually better at filling a large room with sound, or giving a full sound when used for either music or theater.

Floor Standing Speakers have also become much more compact than they used to be say 20-30 years ago. Manufacturers have found ways to make a deeper bass response from a smaller enclosure. Floor Standing Speakers are no longer the massive monolithic boxes they used to be. Regardless of sizes being cut down, large speakers are still considered just "Big and Ugly". While an invisible home theater is desirable to many people, a pair of large, well finished floor standers with a gloss or woodgrain finish can really look quite gorgeous in any home.

We have a great range of Floor Standing speakers, and some massive discounts on some models.

In most cases, larger floorstanding speakers are also able to handle much more punishment, compared to small satellite speakers, and bookshelf speakers with a single woofer. Having the larger enclosure, with more woofers on board doesn't necessarily mean it will just have louder bass, it will generally mean the bass can extend to lower frequencies that are usually reserved for a subwoofer.

All speakers in this category are sold as pairs unless otherwise specified.
