Bluetooth Speakers

Speakers that stream audio from your mobile device. Without the need for a home network. Simple to use, with great sound. Portable models are available.

All products in this category only need a connection from your phone to play music, and power (which in the case for the portable models, is the rechargable on board battery). Bluetooth sound quality has come a very long way, now with the introduction of APTX audio codecs, all Bluetooth audio is near cd quality. Speaker development has also progressed swiftly to bring the sound of much larger speakers to smaller devices (within reason, don't expect a handheld portable bluetooth speaker to perform as well as a big pair of floorstanders).

Speakers like the Zeppelin Wireless, and the Bose SoundTouch are primarily designed to be used with home network streaming functions (Apple AirPlay, or Bose SoundTouch for example). The bluetooth functions allow for streaming from any device with bluetooth (v3.0 and higher), and can work without a home network.

Bluetooth has a limited range. It will generally operate within about 10 meters. That operating distance usually becomes shorter if there is a lot of interference, or if there is (for example) a concrete wall between the mobile device and the bluetoth speaker.

Only a small number of Bluetooth speakers are water resistant. Please check the packaging and user manual of your new bluetooth speaker before even thinking about having it near water. This would not mean the speaker is waterproof.

Stereo pairing, using two speakers, is only available on a small number of models, such as the Cambridge G2 and the KEF Muo. Phone call functions are also available on a select few models of Bluetooth speakers, this would allow you to answer the call on the bluetooth speaker, essentially behaving as your phone would in speaker mode, but with a much better speaker.
