Bowers and Wilkins A5. $599

http://www.ipodrepublic.com/images/bw-a5-a7.jpg

A fantastic sounding and looking Airplay speaker. Very easy to set up from an Ipod or Ipad (windows and mac aps can be found on the B&W website).

For its size, the A5 produces nice, clean highs, rich mids and packs a fair deep punch on the bass. We have found it works fantastically for a wide range of musical styles.  The A5 is practically the little brother of the highly regarded A7, which have been sold as quickly as they came in. The A5 is still highly reviewed in many Hi-Fi review websites and magazines. Multiple units could be used similarly to the Sonos System (last months product of the month), working through Airplay direct from your devices, instead of through app control. The A5 is compatible with music streaming apps through your Ipad or Iphone, such as Spotify, LastFM, Pandora and Mixcloud. The tweeters onboard the A5 are using technology derived from the B&W flagship Nautilus speaker. It is possible to plug a non Airplay fitted device to the 3,5mm socket on the back, so you could plug an MP3 player, or laptop to your A5 easily. Can be hardwired to a network via ethernet if needed.

The Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin A5 will certainly fill the room with wireless audio, untainted by distortion. Bringing you Hi-Fi quality sound in a compact unit.

kef book 1 kef book 2

KEF have released a limited edition hardcover book to celebrate 50 years of innovation in sound, showcasing the company’s history and roots in professional and broadcasting audio.

Kef’s latest product release, the highly acclaimed LS50 monitor bookshelf speakers, is a tribute to early professional monitor speakers, such as the LS3/5 used by the BBC. Equally at home in a professional mixing studio or a home hi-fi setup, the LS50 speakers recently have taken out a whole heap of awards including best speaker in the $2500 - $5000 category (despite their $2000 price-point!).

For the next lucky customer, we have ONE copy of this great piece of memorabilia to give away. But be quick! There have been more customers visiting to audition this pair of speakers than any other set that we stock. The KEF LS50s are truly a “hot” item at the moment, and justifiably so.

For more information on KEFs 50 year celebrations and history, read on:

Good afternoon all.

Christmas is the time for giving, and for receiving. Why not treat yourself to something this Christmas?

I apologize for not being able to keep up with the product of the week blog, there have been a few minor difficulties with the blog.

We all felt here that a product of the month would be more suitable, rather than of the week. It gives us time to better understand the product that we are promoting, to give you the best suggestions.

For this month, I am promoting the entire SONOS range. A wireless sound system that can be controlled from your smartphone, or your computer (pc or mac), where the source audio is stored on your computer, or through one of the many wireless music services available (such as Spotify, RDio, Bigpond Music etc). Alternatively, the Connect, Connect:Amp, and Play5 have all got a line in source. Furthermore, there is an Ipod dock available that wirelessly works with the Sonos System.

First off, You would need a home network. For the sonos system to work effectively, you will need a control device (any windows or mac laptop should do, as long as it is connected to the same network, or an Android or Apple mobile device connected via Wi-Fi.

You will also need to connect at least one of the Sonos products to the network via LAN. If it is too difficult to run an ethernet cable all the way to the closest device, you can use a Sonos Bridge to wirelessly transmit to the other Sonos devices, which then can retransmit the wireless signal to extend the range at which they can operate.
You only need one Sonos component to connect to the network for them all to work.

SONOS ZONE BRIDGEThe Sonos Bridge is usually the first part of the setup, It can be tucked away out of sight nearby the internet connection. If you purchase the Sonos Play3 or Play5, you will recieve one of these free of charge, normally valued at $79. Only one free promo per customer.
http://www.apollohifi.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1234&category_id=17&keyword=sonos&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=80

From there, Everything can be set up and used wirelessly (power cables excepted)

SONOS PLAY 3 Powered Zone SpeakerIf you just wanted wireless speakers to play audio from, You will want to buy a Sonos Play3, or two to make a stereo pair. A pair of them work well together to create a quite impressive soundscape from an attractive, yet somewhat discrete unit. They can also be paired with the Sonos Sub to fill out the bottom end. Has an ethernet port so it can be the start of the Sonos system in the same way the Bridge does. If you purchase this product, you will recieve a Sonos Bridge, free of charge, valued at $79. Limited to one per customer.
http://www.apollohifi.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1232&category_id=17&keyword=sonos&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=80

SONOS PLAY 5 Powered Zone SpeakerYou could expand on the cababilities of the Play3, with the Play5. A larger, more powerful wireless speaker that also can be paired into stereo with 2 of these units. It has 2 mid drivers, 2 tweeter drivers and a small woofer to fill out the bass when used on its own. Has an ethernet port so it can be the start of the Sonos system in the same way the Bridge does. If you purchase this product, you will recieve a Sonos Bridge, free of charge, valued at $79. Limited to one per customer.
http://www.apollohifi.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1233&category_id=17&keyword=sonos&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=80

SONOS CONNECT Zone PlayerThe Connect is like a source for your Hi-Fi system. It has analog and digital out to plug directly to your amp/preamp/whatever your setup consists of. It is a neat little unit that brings all of your audio streaming to your main setup. Has an ethernet port so it can be the start of the Sonos system in the same way the Bridge does.
http://www.apollohifi.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1231&category_id=17&keyword=sonos&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=80

SONOS CONNECT:AMP Zone PlayerThe Connect:AMP works in a similar way to the Connect, except it has an onboard Class D amplifier. With this, just wire up your choice of speakers, and Subwoofer if you wish, and it can be an entirely independant system. Once again, this has the networking capabilities of the other Sonos products. Sounds phenomenal when wired to a pair of quality speakers.
http://www.apollohifi.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1230&category_id=17&keyword=sonos&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=80

The Sonos Sub employs innovative design and style to pad out the bottom end of a stereo pair of Play3's or Play5's. They wont work as a seperate speaker on their own, but as part of a group, they make impressive sound from the other Sonos products turn to something that just Wows you. This sub gives Deep and Accurate bass that certainly brings your music to life.
http://www.apollohifi.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1300&category_id=21&keyword=sonos&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=80

Friends coming over? They have music on their Ipod/Iphone they would like you to hear?  Or do you have an Ipod version that doesnt have WiFi? Then this is your solution. Plug and play, A great gift idea,
http://www.apollohifi.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=1235&category_id=14&keyword=sonos&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=80

If you would like to purchase any of these wonderful Sonos products, please give us a call, and we will organize the products you would like for you.

With the monumental increase in popularity of headphones, mainly due to the vast array of portable music player, most notably iPod and iPhones, the range of headphones, earphones and related accessories can be truly mind-boggling.

With products ranging from earphones valued at $15 (cheap & nasty), all the way up to reference audiophile headphones valued in excess of $1500 (crème de la crème), there is a product designed to suit every listener and budget. While not every consumer wants to spend a fortune on headphones, there are plenty of models with good performance at a reasonable price.

Here we will try to de-mystify the products and give you the know-how to make an informed decision when purchasing your next pair of headphones.

Shure ES535 Sound Isolating Audiophile Earphones

Headphones 0 Comments

With the proliferation of high quality music devices that deliver CD like sound quality, finding a pair of earphones that deliver the most from your music source can be a challenge.  This is where professional audio company Shure has aimed it's ES535 earphones.  Initially designed for on-stage performers who required accurate monitoring of their performances, pushing high sound pressure levels to overcome the volumes experienced in a live performance with a high degree of accuracy.

The Shure ES535 utilises  three high definition micro drivers (1 tweeter and 2 bass drivers) for amazingly deep and rich bass and accurate, smooth midrange and high end reproduction.  The earphones come with a number of sound isolating inserts for the ears that block out exterior noises and sounds (be careful with that traffic!!!) with a volume control that can be fit if needed.  The earphones are supplied with a high quality detachable Kevlar™ cable that is abuse resistant, fitted with a gold plated connector that allows 360 degree rotation for a nice, comfortable fit.

The sound isolation inserts are arguably better than 'noise cancelling' headphones for practical everyday purposes, as they are ALOT smaller than noise cancelling products, they do not need a battery to operate, and most noise cancelling products target a specific frequency range, such as the low frequency engine drone heard on airplanes.  The noise isolating inserts offer a remarkable reduction in outside noise, up to 30dB in some cases.

The ES535 are available in clear and metallic bronze finish.  The clear finish was originally designed for stage performers to make the earphones as discreet as possible.  They are also a great way to show off the quality of your earphones to your friends. (and to make them jealous of course!)

The highly regarded earphones really do set a new benchmark for portable earphones and are a must if you really value your sound on the move.  To hear what others have said about the magnificent Shure SE535 Earphones, CLICK HERE (and then click on the reviews tab) to read some more great reviews.

Airline travel can be difficult at the best of times.  Screaming children, the constant drone of the engine and passengers can be enough to give anyone a case of 'air rage'.  What if you could all but eliminate these factors?  Wouldn't that take the stress out of long haul flights and make travel that little bit more bearable?  The Bose® Quiet Comfort® headphones does just that!

Designed with audio quality and comfort in mind, these fantastic headphones more accurately reproduces music and audio tracks that can be found on in-flight entertainment and your portable audio devices.  They are equiped with noise cancelling circuitry that works by using tiny microphones which are built into the headphone that listens to the noises around you and products a counter soundwave to reduce the ambient noises considerably.

If you could simply take one of your favourite CDs, put it through a machine, and improve the sound quality - that would be lovely, right?

Skeptical? Coming from an engineering background my approach has always been skeptical. If I can't understand or explain on principle how something should perform better, then I'm dubious about any perceived benefits. "It just works better" is not a scientific justification, but then blind testing is the final way to discern between 'placebo' improvements and real, consistent improvements confirmed by multiple sets of ears.

One of our favourite older models from JBL, from the hugely successful but sadly discontinued Studio series, is the slimline L820 speakers...  and they're back! For a short time only the last remaining L820's are on display at Apollo, in both Cherry and Black, and boy do they sound good for a slim speaker. Forget handsize satellite speakers - these L820 give the performance of a bookshelf speaker but sit only 5 inches deep, are a true 3 way design, and comfortably go down to an impressive 55Hz.
